It was only a matter of time before Nest expanded its product range to include security, and with rivals such as Ring stealing a march on Wi-Fi- and camera-equipped doorbells, it’s not too surprising that Nest has added this to its range. Ring has already released a second-gen version of its video doorbell, the Ring 2.
When is the Nest Hello release date?
As is Nest’s way, it announces products way in advance of them going on sale. The Hello went on sale in the UK on 2 June 2018, so is now available to buy in the US, Canada and UK.
How much does the Nest Hello cost?
In the UK you’ll pay £229 for the kit, or £329 if you want the doorbell professionally installed by a Nest-approved fitter. Buy the Nest Hello. In the US, it’s $229, and Nest simply recommends professional installation, but doesn’t offer the service itself.
What features does it have?
Unlike other smart doorbells, Hello uses Nest’s face recognition that’s already built-into its IQ camera. That means that not only will you get a notification that someone has rung the doorbell, but it will also tell you who it is or if it’s an unfamiliar face. With a built-in speaker and mic, you can talk to the person at the door or use one of several pre-recorded responses via the app. The camera itself has a 160° field of view and a 4:3 HD sensor. It connects via Wi-Fi but also has built-in Bluetooth for easier setup. It’ll also work with a Google Home Mini which can announce when someone is at the door.
