Following on from the recent unveiling of the even-more affordable Nokia C1 Plus and the first Nokia-branded laptop in recent years – the PureBook X14 – the Nokia 5.4 is a timely update on the Nokia 5.3, which launched in the first half of 2020.
When did the Nokia 5.4 launch?
Announced on 15 December 2020, the Nokia 5.4 started appearing in various European markets and the UK from 18 December 2020 (in Polar Night, with the Dusk colourway coming in January 2021).
HMD Global also established a collaboration with an assortment of artists, including George the Poet, to celebrate the phone’s launch. George was one of six poets commissioned to write a series of positive poems for people to share with loved ones. The stories are free to share and download on the Nokia website.
How much is the Nokia 5.4
The Nokia 5.4 comes in at a fraction more than its predecessor – £159.99 compared to £149.99. But for that, you get a little more oomph, an enhanced camera experience and a cleaner design. It’s also available in a bundle deal with the company’s Essential Wireless Headphones E1200 for a total of £194.98.
What features does the Nokia 5.4 offer?
That iconic Nordic design is present and correct on the 5.4, with two dark metallic finishes to choose between and a signature circular rear camera surround. The dewdrop front-facing camera of the 5.3 is now a hole-punch front-facer, set into the top left corner of the phone’s display.
As well as a resolution upgrade to the cameras, the phone also promises enhanced fine-grain control when shooting video, including colour grading – seemingly lifted from the company’s current flagship – the Nokia 8.3 5G. Interestingly, you’re also able to add in-camera watermarks of your own design onto your snaps (as opposed to a rudimentary ‘shot on Nokia’, for example). HMD also promises ‘zero shutter lag’ when tapping to snap. Nokia 5.4 specs:
